Cogstate's Alzheimer's Monopoly Fuels a Sales Contract Boom
Fund managers say broadening demand beyond Alzheimer's trials and a peer takeover both point to further upside for Cogstate

In short
Cogstate holds nearly 100% market share in cognitive testing for pre-clinical Alzheimer's disease trials, fund managers say.
Sales contracts reached US$25.4 million in the March 2026 quarter, up 3.6x year on year, with US$35.6 million of FY27 revenue already scheduled.
Peer Clario Holdings was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific at a multiple well above Cogstate's, validating its own valuation upside.
A near-monopoly position in cognitive testing for Alzheimer's clinical trials has driven Cogstate to record sales contract growth through 2025 and 2026, even as one accounting timing issue briefly rattled investors in December.
Dominant niche, expanding market
Underwood Capital's August 2025 update pointed to rapid FY25 earnings growth and a positive FY26 outlook, describing Cogstate as dominating its niche market with significant multi-year tailwinds, as Alzheimer's research pushes into pre-symptomatic populations. Underwood's September update was more specific: Cogstate holds 100 per cent market share in industry-sponsored trials for pre-clinical Alzheimer's disease, positioning it to benefit from a multi-year increase in Alzheimer's research spending.
Growth broadens beyond Alzheimer's
Lakehouse Capital's October 2025 update highlighted the company's second-highest sales quarter on record at $21.4 million, up 88 per cent on the prior year, with growth notably broad-based: new customer wins spanned a wider range of central nervous system indications, reducing reliance on Alzheimer's trials specifically. Lakehouse pointed to Cogstate's Medidata partnership as still-early but already helping secure contracts across rare disease, depression, schizophrenia and narcolepsy.
The recent first quarter update highlighted higher proposal activity, driving Cogstate's second-highest sales quarter on record at $21.4 million, up 88% on the prior year. What was perhaps most pleasing, is that the growth was broad-based, with new customer wins across a wider range of CNS indications, reducing reliance on Alzheimer's disease trials.

A takeover of a peer validates the valuation gap
Underwood Capital's October 2025 update noted a significant external data point: competitor Clario Holdings was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific during the month at a substantially higher multiple than Cogstate's own trading multiple, a comparison LSN Capital Partners echoed in November, describing the deal as underscoring the strategic value of cognitive-assessment technology in drug development.
An upgrade masked by a downgrade
HD Capital Partners' December 2025 update described an unusual announcement: Cogstate said its first-half result would come in lower than anticipated because around $4.5 million of license revenue, effectively 100 per cent margin recognised on contract execution rather than spread over time, would land in the second half instead. HD Capital argued the timing shift had virtually no impact on long-term value, and was far outweighed by news that Cogstate expected to secure $37 million to $40 million of sales contracts in the first half of FY26, up 82 to 97 per cent on the prior year.
The only negative point we could make is that this announcement came just two months after the very strong guidance released in October, suggesting financial controls or market messaging could be tighter. More important to us in the announcement was news that CGS will secure $37-$40m of sales contracts in 1H26, 82-97% up on the pcp.

Momentum accelerates through mid-2026
Lakehouse Capital's April 2026 update showed the momentum continuing: third-quarter contract sales of US$25.4 million, up 3.6 times on the prior corresponding period, taking year-to-date signings to US$67.1 million, 2.5 times the prior year, with US$35.6 million of FY27 revenue already scheduled. By June 2026, HD Capital Partners described Cogstate as entering an accelerated phase of growth as Alzheimer's and neurological drug development enters what it called a golden age, while cautioning the stock had run hard and traded near all-time highs, and flagging Cogstate as a credible beneficiary of AI-driven improvements in clinical trial success rates.
