Elevra Lithium Rides a Spodumene Rally Fuelled by Battery Storage
Fund managers say battery energy storage demand, not just electric vehicles, is now the key driver of the lithium price recovery

In short
Elevra Lithium surged as spodumene prices rose from around US$1,200 to US$2,450 a tonne between November 2025 and April 2026.
Acorn Capital says Elevra's Moblan project in Quebec is a large, high-grade, transformative asset that could self-fund its own development.
Fund managers increasingly cite battery energy storage system demand, not just EVs, as the key driver of the lithium price recovery.
North American lithium producer Elevra Lithium has surged repeatedly through 2025 and 2026 on a spodumene price recovery, as fund managers increasingly cite battery storage demand, not just electric vehicles, as the driver of the rally.
An under-researched producer with a strong balance sheet
Firetrail Investments' November 2025 update captured the initial spark: the spodumene price rose around 20 per cent to US$1,200 a tonne as research houses significantly upgraded their CY26/27 pricing expectations, citing burgeoning demand for stationary storage and constrained supply after years of low prices. At the time, Elevra carried a market cap of around A$1 billion, more than $200 million of net cash, and a long-life, low-cost, expandable producing asset in North America, which Firetrail argued left it under-researched with compelling upside relative to peers.
Elevra has a market cap of ~A$1bn, over 200m of net cash on the balance sheet, and a long life, low cost, expandable producing asset in North America. Despite these attributes, it remains under-researched and offers compelling upside relative to peers.

A guidance reset resets the valuation
The rally was not uninterrupted. Acorn Capital's March 2026 update noted shares still gained 4.06 per cent that month despite the company announcing a downgrade to guidance, while remaining positive on the near-term outlook. Acorn's April 2026 commentary added detail on the pullback that followed, describing Elevra as one of the major beneficiaries of the broader lithium price recovery from deep lows around mid-2025, before its own guidance reset brought the valuation back to what Acorn called a more realistic level.
Moblan emerges as the transformative growth asset
Acorn Capital's April 2026 commentary pointed to the company's Moblan development project in Quebec as the key differentiator beyond its existing production base: large, high-grade, and transformative enough that the cash flow from current operations could fund a large part, if not all, of its development. Milford Asset Management's own April 2026 update described Elevra as having rapidly transitioned from a developer to a leading domestic supplier of spodumene into the North American market, a region it saw as well positioned from an energy availability perspective, with material production expansion underpinning a positive operational outlook.
Elevra also has a really exciting development project in Moblan. Without Moblan, it'd be a reasonable producer, but nothing too exciting. But it's large, it's high-grade, a really transformative asset, and with that production base, it's something that they can grow their cash balance to actually fund a large part, if not all, of the development.

Battery storage demand becomes the dominant narrative
By April 2026, LSN Capital Partners and Pendal Group both reported shares up more than 62 per cent that month as spodumene prices rose a further 20 per cent to US$2,450 a tonne, with Firetrail Investments attributing the move to rising fuel costs from the Iranian conflict reviving electric vehicle demand, alongside a structural upgrade in battery energy storage system demand forecasts tied to data centres and grid-scale batteries. LSN Capital Partners' June 2026 update showed the position still supporting the fund's returns for the year, even as it detracted in that specific month, crediting improving long-term lithium fundamentals driven by accelerating investment in battery storage and electrification.
Questions
Why has Elevra Lithium's share price risen so sharply?
Firetrail Investments and other fund managers say Elevra Lithium has benefited from a strong recovery in spodumene prices, which rose from around US$1,200 to US$2,450 a tonne between November 2025 and April 2026, driven by rising battery storage and electric vehicle demand forecasts.
What is Elevra Lithium's Moblan project?
Acorn Capital described Moblan as a large, high-grade lithium development project in Quebec that it calls transformative, noting Elevra's existing cash flow could fund a large part, if not all, of its development.
Is electric vehicle demand still the main driver of lithium demand for Elevra Lithium?
Firetrail Investments and LSN Capital Partners both say battery energy storage system demand, driven by data centres and grid-scale batteries, is now a significant driver of lithium demand alongside electric vehicles, with several analysts upgrading their short and medium-term forecasts.
