In short
Ramelius Resources' stock tracked gold price weakness through 2026, even as it delivered a record 68% operating margin and met production guidance for a sixth consecutive year.
The company's acquisition of Spartan Resources added a starter resource of 2.1 million ounces at 8.8 grams per tonne near its existing Penny and Mt Magnet operations, which Katana Asset Management calls a game changer.
Argonaut Funds Management sees Ramelius scaling toward 500,000-700,000 ounces of annual production by 2030, with dividends likely to follow as the Spartan and Dalgaranga assets mature.
Ramelius Resources spent 2026 riding swings in the gold price while quietly transforming its own growth profile through the Spartan Resources acquisition and the Dalgaranga mine coming into production, and even as the stock pulled back alongside gold's volatility, fund managers increasingly see the Spartan deal's high-grade discovery as a potential game-changer for the company's long-term output.
Gold price swings, not company news, drive the stock
Antares Capital said the stock detracted from performance in April as the market's aversion to gold stocks deepened, noting that even as conflict escalated in the Middle East, investors flocked to the safety of the US dollar rather than embracing gold as the geopolitical hedge it has historically been, leaving gold trading more as an inverse proxy to dollar strength. Alliance Bernstein exited its position that same month, viewing Ramelius as most exposed among its holdings in a potential fuel-rationing scenario. By June, Paradice Investment Management said the stock underperformed in line with the gold price, while cost guidance for FY26 was lifted to A$1,900 to A$2,050 an ounce from A$1,700 to A$1,900, largely a function of earlier than expected commercial production at Dalgaranga bringing forward costs, royalties and diesel expenses. Antares Capital said shares partly recovered after Ramelius announced the $300 million sale of its Edna May Gold Hub to Forrestania Resources, though not enough to offset the earlier weakness.
The market did not embrace gold as a geopolitical hedge, as it has been historically. Instead, gold seems to be trading an inverse proxy to the strength of the US dollar.

Operationally, the business keeps delivering
Endeavor Asset Management bought into the gold sector weakness in July, pointing to a June quarter that produced 53,466 ounces at an all-in sustaining cost of $1,973 an ounce, a record 68 percent operating margin, and a closing cash and gold balance of $649.6 million, with production guidance met for a sixth consecutive year.

The Spartan deal reshapes the growth story
Seneca Financial Solutions noted in February that Ramelius's acquisition of Spartan Resources had reshaped the competitive landscape around it, with Spartan's Youanmi project strategically located on the same geological structure as Ramelius's Penny gold mine, just 20 kilometres away, and only 50 kilometres from its Mt Magnet mill. By September, Katana Asset Management called the Spartan and Dalgaranga assets an absolute game changer, with Spartan's starter resource at 2.1 million ounces at 8.8 grams per tonne, a grade it called exceptional, with significant further discovery potential still to come. Argonaut Funds Management named Ramelius among its preferred Australian gold producers, valuing its well-managed, growing operations as capable of scaling toward 500,000 to 700,000 ounces of annual production by 2030, with dividends likely to follow.
Their starter resource there is 2.1 million ounces at 8.8 grams a tonne, which is exceptional, and there's a lot more gold to be discovered there.

What fund managers say they are watching next is further discovery upside at the high-grade Youanmi resource, how cost guidance tracks as Dalgaranga fully ramps, progress toward the 500,000 to 700,000 ounce annual production target by 2030, and whether Ramelius's unusual inverse relationship with the US dollar persists or gold reasserts itself as a traditional geopolitical hedge.
